Careers

PHS Dedicated Careers Website

Vivien Gordon is our Careers Adviser. Vivien is located in the Careers Office in the library Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

Viven manages the careers programs at Pittwater High School. Students are individually case-managed and offered a variety of courses and career activities that are most likely to meet their needs.

The school now has its own dedicated website for career's advice called Pittwater High Careers. Students and parents can use this site for a wide range of career information. If students register in the "students only" area, they will be able to make use of many of the proformas available such as 'creating a resume'.

Throughout the year, students are supported by the Career's Adviser to gain part-time work by booking in for assistance with writing resumes, applications, cover letters and preparing for job interviews.

Students in Year 10 participate in a "Careers Program" of once a fortnight lessons where they find out how to undertake an optional Work Experience placement, information about subject selection and further training options at university or TAFE after the completion of Year 10, as well as many other career-orientated activities.

Year 12 will participate in exit plan interviews.

The services provided are:

  • Careers counselling which includes appropriate subject selection, matching student's interests to appropriate careers
  • Career pathway support such as resume writing, interview and presentation skills
  • Organising talks, access to service providers and potential employers, for information on employment requirements
  • Conducting careers excursions, for example to the Careers Expos for Years 10 and 12
  • Work experience organisation for Year 10 with local businesses and community partners
  • Careers lessons and group work for Year 10
  • Support of students undertaking School Bases Traineeships and Apprentiships
  • Organisation and support for the TVET programs. Year 11 and 12
  • Our careers adviser has a 'door always open' policy and students are welcome to drop in at the Learning Centre and make an appointment at any time. Parents can call if they have questions or concerns.
