Cabrananga
We provide a supportive, inclusive, and individualised Special Education Program designed to meet the diverse learning needs of our students.
Who we support
Cabrananga consists of three classes staffed by dedicated Special Education Teachers and School Learning Support Officers (SLSOs), including:
- 2 Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) classes
- 1 Multi-Categorical (MC) class
Placement is based on an assessment to make sure each child gets the right support.
Integrated Model
- Cabrananga follows an integrated model, where students access mainstream classes for a range of subjects, with or without SLSO support.
- This model is highly valued across the school community as it provides students with:
- Access to specialist teachers and equipment
- Opportunities for meaningful social interaction with peers
- Increased independence and confidence across the school environment
- Each class maintains a low student-to-teacher ratio of 7:1, creating a calm and supportive learning environment
Subjects
Our lessons, support and learning plans give students regular check-ins, clear communication with families and close tracking of their strengths and areas for improvement. These plans improve engagement, support stronger learning outcomes and guide smooth transitions through school and beyond.
-
In Years 7–8, students participate in the full range of mandatory subjects, including:
· English · Visual Arts
· Mathematics · Music
· HSIE · PDHPE
· Science · Technological and Applied Studies (TAS)
These subjects are taught by a variety of specialist teachers.
In Years 9–12, students are supported to select mainstream elective subjects based on their interests and strengths.
How students access our support unit
Placement in our Cabrananga unit follows an access request process. This helps us understand each student’s needs and plan the right support. The process usually includes:
- Meeting with our learning support team to talk about your child’s needs
- Providing documents or assessments
- Review and recommendation by a specialist panel
- Creating an individual education plan (IEP) for your child
Our friendly office team can assist you in getting in touch with the Cabrananga team.
How we work with families and specialists
We work closely with families and specialists to support every student. Our teachers stay in touch with parents and carers to share progress and plan next steps.
We also work with therapists, counsellors and health professionals so students get the same support across school and home.
